Eaton Corp. announces the VCP-Wind medium voltage vacuum circuit breaker designed specifically for wind applications. The compact circuit breaker is engineered to provide reliable and robust circuit protection for wind farm collector substations.

The VCP-Wind circuit breaker incorporates Eaton’s vacuum interrupting technology, which avoids the use of Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) that poses environmental and safety concerns. The new devices are designed to reliably switch high stress currents, and do not require cooling or ventilation systems. What's more, they are encapsulated in epoxy resin material and need virtually zero maintenance over the product life cycle.

The new 38-kilovolt (kV) VCP-Wind breakers feature current ratings up to 2,000 amperes (A) without fan cooling and 31.5 kiloamperes (kA). They meet ANSI and IEEE C37.09 standards.
