Claiming to be the first to offer analog mixing suitable for use cell phones that offer integrated media players, the AK4362 20-bit, dual-channel D/A converter (DAC) includes an independent DAC and analog attenuator for a monaural output and a headphone amplifier. The device can function as a playback unit while allowing other analog signals to be passed to the mono output or the headphone amplifier. There is also third D/A converter that enables an external speaker amplifier to be controlled independently for volume control and mixing functions. The headphone amp includes a mute circuit that eliminates noise when power is switched on or off, eliminating the need for an external circuit. Other features include built-in, low frequency compensation and de-emphasis circuits. In a 28-pin QFN package, the AK4362 chip costs $3.31 each/10,000. AKM SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA.
