16-Bit SAR A/D Converter Performs 1 Msamples/s

Billed as the industry's fastest 16-bit, successive approximation register (SAR) a/d converter, the AD7671 is capable of performing up to 1 Msamples/s. The device consumes 115 mW from a 5V supply typical depending on the mode of operation, said to be half the amount of power consumed by comparable devices on the market.With no data latency, three operating speeds are possible: warp mode at 1 Msamples/s, normal mode at 800 ksamples/s, and impulse mode whereby power consumption varies with throughput. Operational temperature range is from -40ûC to 85ûC. Other features include bi-polar and uni-polar inputs, calibration and error detection circuits, an internal clock, and eight- or 16-bit and two-wire serial interfaces.
