The Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Consortium and the IEEE Council on EDA announced today that they would jointly sponsor the EDA industry's prestigious Phil Kaufman Award. Nominations for this year's recipient are being accepted until Friday, June 29.
The award now will be known as the "Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to Electronic Design Automation." Presented annually since 1994, the Kaufman Award honors an individual who has had a demonstrable impact on the field of EDA. It was established in honor of the late EDA industry pioneer Phil Kaufman, who turned innovative technologies like silicon compilation and emulation into businesses that have benefited electronic designers.
"IEEE places a high value on rewarding individuals who have made contributions that significantly impacted the EDA community," said Al Dunlop, president of the IEEE Council on EDA. "The award honors both academic and industrial efforts based on the significance to the broader EDA community. This is a prestigious EDA award, and we are delighted to partner with the EDA Consortium to present it annually."
Added Aart de Geus, chairman of the EDA Consortium and chairman and CEO of Synopsys, Inc.: "We welcome the IEEE Council on EDA's participation in selecting and honoring the recipient of the Phil Kaufman Award. The addition of the IEEE as a sponsoring body supports the notion that the Phil Kaufman Award is truly the 'Nobel Prize of EDA.'"
