Single-Chip PC Takes Aim At Internet Applications

Jan. 1, 2000

At the heart of the STPC Consumer-S single-chip PC is an advanced 64-bit, 100-MHz processor block containing a 64-bit DRAM controller, a 64-bit accelerated graphics and video controller, a bus mastering EIDE controller, and a high-speed PCI local bus controller, as well as a 32-bit fifth-generation x 86 processor that is fully PC-compatible. The chip supports synchronous DRAMs and provides all of the functions required to build x86-based information and Internet appliances--the x86 platform is useful for information appliances as it offers the ability to run high-performance RTOS and application programs and a large installed base of x 86 development tools.
