Modem Reference Design Addresses Low-Speed Data

April 1, 2000

For low-speed data transmission applications, the V.23 modem is compliant with the CCITT V.23 standard and includes DTMF generation and detection, caller-ID, and call-progress functions. The modem's design is tested to FCC standards and lets designers reduce parts counts and total system costs in a variety of embedded applications. The V.23 modem replaces external hardware components with Virtual Peripheral software modules that are loaded into the on-chip flash/EEPROM program memory of a 50 MIPS SX28AC µC. Capable of executing one instruction every cycle, the SX28AC is able to perform both modem and system control functions. Pricing is slated at $89.00 for a complete evaluation kit.
