The LTC4230 triple, hot-swap controller limits inrush current during live insertion, enables a timed circuit breaker for over-current transients, and latches off an external n-channel MOSFET during short-circuit faults for power supplies from 1.7 to 16.5V. The device monitors output voltage and generates a reset signal for each supply if the voltage drops below a programmable threshold. This approach is said to eliminate the need for external circuitry. Offered in a 20-pin SSOP, price starts at $3.65 each/1,000. LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 432-1900.
