Buffer Amplifiers Replace 15 Discretes

April 1, 1999

One 6-pin SOT replaces 15 discrete components when using the MAX2470/2471 high-isolation, monolithic buffer amplifier ICs. The easy-to-use devices provide more than 60 dB isolation, a -5 dBm differential output and -27 dBc harmonic suppression, making them well suited for protecting both discrete and module-based VCOs from the common problem of load impedance variations. The amplifiers are also useful as an active balun. The MAX2470 features a single-ended input and has two selectable frequency ranges from 10 MHz up to 200 MHz or 500 MHz. The MAX2471 has a differential input and is set for operation from 10 MHz to 500 MHz.
