µPs Tap Enhanced Architecture To Port EmbeddedJava

Demand for M-CORE 32-bit RISC microprocessors is expected to continue to soar with the introduction in '99 of a line of processors able to run EmbeddedJava. Motorola recently announced the first implementation of EmbeddedJava Virtual Machine technology for an enhanced version of its M-CORE architecture, with the MMC2001 processor (see diagram) to be the first M-CORE device to go commercial. This is to be followed by products based on M200 and M300 cores.The combination of EmbeddedJava and M-CORE processors will enable a host of wireless, consumer and industrial products to interact with desktop Java applications seamlessly and independently of the platform they are running on. Launched early last year, MMC2001 requires a 1.8V to 3.6V supply and can process 31 MIPS at 33 MHz and 1.8V.
