A new family of multi-port RJ-45 connectors with integrated magnetics is expected to cut assembly costs for manufacturers of high-density hubs and switches by reducing the overall component count. Co-developed with the Communications Business Unit of Tyco Electronics, the PulseJack Harmonica family consists of a two-tiered stacked line of 8-, 12- and 16-port RJ-45 connectors. The integrated magnetics provide the isolation and EMI suppression necessary for today's 10/100Base-T computer and telecommunications networks. Designed from the ground up as one integrated module, the connectors give manufacturers a cost-efficient, high-component-density solution while exceeding the IEEE 802.3 and ANSI X3.263 standards.
The space-efficient stacked package allows shorter traces between the RJ-45 connectors and the LAN transceiver, improving both EMI emissions and electrical performance. The 2 x 4 8-port, 2 x 6 12-port and 2 x 8 16-port modules feature the company's patented InterLock base construction, which minimizes the stresses of human handling of sub-components, such as coils, leads and interconnecting wires, resulting in higher quality and reliability.
The PulseJack Harmonica series of filtered connectors is priced at $1.60 per port/100,000.
