DIP Switch Holds Its Own In SMT Apps

April 1, 2001

Available under the Alcoswitch brand name, this half-pitch DIP switch with its terminals spaced on 0.05" centerlines is said to provide the same performance of similar devices with twice that spacing. The switch is available in even sizes from two through 10 positions with a cycle rating of up to 1,000. Overall height of the device is 0.091" for a standard version, with a special 0.067" device available with four positions. Constructed of a copper alloy with gold plating on nickel, the contacts are rated at 100 mA at 50 Vdc for non-switching applications and 25 mA at 24 Vdc for switching. Base and cover materials are PPS and the actuator is constructed from high-temperature polyester. Operating temperature ranges from -30°C to +85°C. An eight-position switch is priced at $1.60 each/25,000 and eight-position switches cost $1.71 each.
