Pooling their collective talents, Hillcrest Labs and Texas Instruments have unveiled the Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics \\{RF4CE\\} compliant remote controls with Freespace Technology, an RF-based remote technology that eliminates line-of-sight pointing requirements.

The remotes pair Hillcrest's Freespace technology and Texas Instruments' RemoTI network protocol to eliminate the line-of-site limitations of infrared devices and dramatically reduce the number of buttons needed on a remote control. Also of note, the RF remotes support more advanced features such as in-air pointing for enhanced entertainment experiences based on bi-directional communication capabilities.
