64-Bit MIPS Embedded Processor Runs At 250 MHz

Touted as the world's fastest 64-bit MIPS microprocessor core, the EZ4021 Mini-RISC core operates at 250 MHz. Based on the MIPS III R4000 architecture, the EZ4021 is an optimized implementation of a synthesizable core.
The embedded processor is designed for mid-range to high-end applications, including set-top boxes and image processing engines, networking switches and routers, and consumer products requiring 64-bit performance. At 12 mm2 in size, including 16K instruction and data caches, the device consumes just 2.6 mW/MHz. Evaluation/development kits will be available in early Q3, 2000.
