Backplane Reference Guide Penned For ATM Access Systems

Nov. 1, 1999

Used by TranSwitch customers who are developing backplanes for CellBus-based systems is a backplane reference design guide. The guide was jointly developed by AMP and TranSwitch for its CellBus systems which, when combined with the firm's CUBIT-Pro VLSI device, is used to build cost-effective ATM access systems. Through system-level simulation, AMP developed an optimized reference design for a CellBus backplane that features 17 slots, uses AMP Z-PACK 2-mm HM connectors, and fits within a standard 6U VME enclosure. CellBus is a 37-line common parallel bus that interconnects a number of CUBIT-Pro VLSI devices, which perform ATM switching functions.
