ConvertersÕ Noise Spec Is IndustryÕs Lowest

Dec. 1, 2001

Designed for wireless applications that demand low noise performance, the TPS6024x series is claimed as the industryÕs lowest noise switched-capacitor buck-boost converters. Featuring 170-mVrms ripple (20 Hz to 10 MHz), the devices are well suited to VCO and PLL power supply applications in cell phones, wireless PDAs, and other devices. The TPS6024x series has an input voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and output voltages of 2.7V, 3V, 3.3V and 5V. Maximum output current is 12 mA, while normal operating current is 250 mA. The converterÕs shutdown mode draws just 100 nA (typ.).The TPS60241xÕs proprietary dual-cap design employs four small, low-cost 1 mF ceramic capacitors to provide ultra-low output ripple and high efficiency. Pricing for the TPS60241 (2.7V to 5.5V input, 5V output) starts at $1.55 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Semiconductor Group, Santa Clarita, CA. (800) 477-8924, ext. 4500.
