CWDM Modules Support 10-Gb/s Ethernet

With maximum speeds of up to 12.5 Gb/s, this family of four- and eight-channel coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) modules is said to deliver greater bandwidth via single-mode optical fiber than previous devices. Designed to meet the requirements of the Metro Optical Ethernet market, the units fully support 10-Gb/s Ethernet. The four-channel modules multiplex four DFB lasers in the 1,500 nm range, providing aggregate data rates of 2.5, 5, 10 and 12.5 Gb/s. They support link levels from 3 to 20 dB and operate over distances of 10 to 70 km over existing single-mode fibers.
The distances are achieved with 20-nm channel spacing in the 1,500-nm range, allowing for un-cooled laser operation. The eight-channel modules are said to provide similar data rates and link-level support.
