Industrial Controllers First To Offer Windows CE?

Dec. 1, 1998

The firm has launched what it claims are the world's first industrial controllers with Windows CE. The controllers include the WinPLC and RUNtimePC. WinPLC is a PLC control platform that runs the Windows CE operating system as a run-time platform that integrates the features of PLCs and PCs, including direct backplane access to I/O, non-volatile program and data memories, and built-in Ethernet and serial ports. The RUNtimePC is a Windows CE-based diskless industrial PC with solid-state flash memory and four built-in Ethernet ports to communicate with PLCDirect I/O and other Windows platforms. The systems reportedly can lower the cost of PC-based PLC solutions, which are said to be complex and costly in the past.
