Line Terminator Looks Ahead To SPI-3

July 1, 1999

The UCC5640 is claimed as the world’s first Low-Voltage Differential-only line terminator for high-end workstations, servers, RAID arrays, and data warehouse systems. The 9-line terminator’s LVD-only design enables users to reach peak bus performance with a greater than 50% power savings compared with multimode SCSI implementations, it’s claimed. As a result, designs can comply with Ultra-2, SPI-2, and Ultra-3, SPI-3 specifications.Other features include a Y-termination circuit to increase frequency response and a 3-pF differential channel capacitance to minimize bus loading.
