Linear Headphone Amp Boasts 110 dB SNR

Sept. 1, 2002

The TS482 is a linear stereo headphone amplifier with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 110 dB measured at 5V operation. Capable of operating with supply voltages from 2V to 5.5, the device can provide up to 100 mW of output power per channel into a 16W load with a distortion of 0.1% THD+N maximum when operating at 5.5V, and can also drive 32W headphones. Additionally, the device exhibits a power supply ripple rejection of 85 dB, also measured at 5.5V operation. Crosstalk immunity is specified as 100 dB at 1 kHz and 80 dB across the spectrum of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The amplifier is also designed to reduce on/off-switching noise. Other features include rail-to-rail inputs and outputs and an operating temperature range from -40_C to +85_C. Configuration is via external gain-setting resistors. Available in MiniSO-88 and SO-8 packages, price is $0.18 each/10,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, INC., Lexington, MA. (781) 861-2650.
