Optical Modules Enable Dolby Surround Sound And DTS

Expanding the TOSLINK line of optical modules for digital audio, eight new modules that include transmitters and receivers have been introduced. The latest additions claim to enable Dolby digital surround sound and Sony DTS in set-top boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and other consumer devices. The TOTX141/141P/179/179P transmitting modules and TORX141/141P/179/179P receiver modules provide transmit/receive rates from dc to 12.8 or 15 Mb/s. Depending on model they come in either a standard panel-mount or min-mount package with operating voltages of 2.7 to 36V, 4.75 to 5.25V, and 2.7 to 3.6V. Prices range from $1 to $3 each in volume.
