The trial-and-error methods traditionally used to fine-tune complex embedded systems reportedly can be eliminated with Deja-View for QNX, a real-time analysis tool that provides a detailed picture of how all the software components in a live system interact. As a result, developers can quickly pinpoint deadlocks, timing conflicts, modules that require optimization, and a variety of other hard-to-detect conditions. The tool can be used in two ways: during development to optimize designs; and at run time to pinpoint unexpected conflicts that impede performance. It records every kernel event in the system and then provides tools to filter out the noise of less important events, allowing the developer to focus on areas of interest.
