Software Seamlessly Links Embedded Devices To PC-Based Apps In Distributed Environs

Said to represent the first real-time implementation for embedded applications of the Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) interface for Windows-based software, VxDCOM software is designed to allow OEMs to connect embedded devices with PC-based applications in a distributed environment. Representing an extension to the firm’s VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), the scalable VxDCOM implementation not only allows devices running the VxWorks RTOS to seamless communicate with each other and with PC-based tools and apps in a distributed environment, but, when integrated with management-oriented applications such as the Excel spreadsheet, also allows further processing and presentation of data gathered by the embedded devices. In addition, VxDCOM software’s language independence gives OEMs the flexibility to wire the PC-based apps in Java, Visual Basic, C++, or in any other Active X-compatible language. And the software is said to work "out-of-the-box" without incurring the added development time to configure communication between the Windows host and the VxDCOM-enabled target.
