SSI Eases Position And Motion Monitoring

Implemented on an M-Module mezzanine card, the company’s synchronous serial interface (SSI) is designed to simplify the monitoring and controlling of shafts and other moving parts in machine tools. Called the M47, the card provides four, 32-bit RS-422 channels that are capable of both Gray and binary decoding. Each channel is optically isolated. The transfer rate and word length of each of the four input channels can be programmed individually. Other features include a double-buffered, RAM-like interface, automatic communication, sensor-connection detection, line-break detection, and interrupt functions. Operating temperature range is from -40°C to +85°C. Drivers are available for Windows, Linux, VxWorks, ONX, RTX, and OS-9 operating systems. Single-unit price is set at $420.
