Switched LNA Suits Digital Cell Handsets

Nov. 1, 1998

Through use of a proprietary switching technique, the AM55-0016 low-noise amplifier (LNA) provides a low-insertion-loss, high-input-IP3 bypass state in parallel with a high-gain, very-low-noise state. The combination enables high-quality digital cellular communication in urban and rural areas. The switched LNA also features adjustable biasing to optimize the current consumption vs. dynamic range tradeoff. It can be combined with the company's MMIC mixer with local oscillator to form a high linearity downconverter. The amplifier operates from 800 MHz to 1000 MHz with gain of 16 dB and a noise figure of 1.6 dB. A single control voltage is used to power down the amplifier and simultaneously switch to bypass mode.
