Testbench Emulates PCI Chipset

Aug. 1, 1999

Offered at a cost reported to be 40% lower than the competition, the PLD Applications testbench is a fully customizable VHDL environment that emulates a PCI chipset, serving simultaneously as master, target and arbiter. It enables engineers to simulate their design as though it was connected to a working PCI bus. They can thus detect and eliminate bugs prior to the complex and expensive hardware development phase. The testbench can initiate or respond to transactions with up to 15 PCI agents, defined by the user by a simple script. The unit then dynamically manages transactions, reports bus events, and handles error conditions. All results and outputs are recorded in readable log file that include the detailed content of the PCI bus configuration registers. The unit also controls design-specific backend signals outside the PCI bus.
