FAQ: Optimize Parameters such as L, SRF, Q, and DCR When Choosing RF Inductors
Sept. 22, 2021
A lower DCR increases the current rating and Q but at the expense of a larger overall part size.
For a simple first-order choke, choose an inductor whose SRF is near the frequency of the noise to be attenuated. For higher order filters, use a commercial simulation program to calculate inductance values based on the cutoff frequency for low- and high-pass filters or the bandwidth for bandpass filters. An online inductor/choke finder and analyzer tool helps you to select inductors based on several key parameters.
