MEMS-Based Devices Keep Time for 5G Base Stations
SiTime is supplying Lattice Semiconductor with its precision timing solutions to be used in an FPGA-based hardware development platform intended to speed up the deployment of 5G base stations.
The timing devices are part of the pact that includes a Cascade MEMS-based clock-system-on-a-chip (ClkSoC) paired with one of its Emerald OCXOs or Elite X Super-TCXOs.
Among the key features of the Cascade SiT95141 ClkSoC family is a MEMS resonator that removes quality and reliability issues with regular quartz-based clocks. The devices have a wide frequency range from 8 kHz to 2.1 GHz, with four clock domains and 11 outputs, and a digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) mode with 0.005-ppb resolution. The rich set of programmable features inside the device come in a 9- × 9-mm package that supports IEEE 1588, ITU-T G.8262.1, and JESD204B.
SiTime touts its MEMS-based timing devices as ideal for everything from telecom to aerospace systems that tend to be subjected to harsh environmental conditions like shock, vibration, and temperature swings.
