WiMax Transceiver Slices BOM In Half

Designed around a zero-IF architecture, the MAX2837 WiMax transceiver does not require a SAW filter or extra VCO circuitry, an approach that forecasts a 50% reduction in BOM costs. Groomed for OFDM-based, non-line-of-sight wireless broadband radio systems operating in the 2.3- to 2.7-GHz band, the device suits 802.16d/e fixed and mobile WiMAX, dual-mode WiMAX/Wi-Fi, WiBro, and emerging 4G LTE systems. Features include an SPI-compatible interface, a digitally controlled crystal oscillator that enables the use of a ±25 ppm or higher crystal in place of a TCXO, a 2.3 dB receiver noise figure, -11 dBm input IP3, -40 dBc of VCO phase noise, power consumption of 250 mW, receiver EVM of better than –35 dB, and a sideband suppression greater than 45 dB. On the transmitter side, the chip delivers a 0-dBm linear output. Available in a 48-pin, 6 mm x 6mm TQFN package, pricing starts at $8.38 each/1,000. An evaluation kit is also available.
