Integrating a dual photodiode, LED drive circuitry, and a signal processing circuit in a subminiature plastic package, the S8030 and S8064 photo ICs are designed to accurately determine the proximity of an object. Built for use with an infrared LED and light emitting/receiving lenses, the ICs utilize an optical triangular measurement cycle to detect the distance to an object. Measurement accuracy is assured by the visible-light-cut housing and synchronous optical detector, which make the photo ICs immune to background light. Well suited for high-speed optical switches, the devices have a typical peak sensitivity wavelength of 850 nm and typical photo sensitivity of 0.3 A/W. Typical operating supply voltage is 5V, and typical current consumption is 4 mA.Operating temperature range is -20¡C to +70¡C. The duo is priced at $2.78 in large quantities.
