Tiny Audio Amplifiers Sip Power And Ward Off RF Effects

The ISL99201 and ISL99202 are the first audio-amplifier products in a line of ultra-small-footprint and low-power packages. The ISL99201, available in nine-bump, 0.4-mm-pitch WCSP, is claimed as the world’s smallest Class D amplifier. The filterless, high-efficiency mono amplifier delivers up to 2.5 W into a 4-? ohm load. It features a low-noise modulation scheme, operating with 86% efficiency at 400 mW into 8 ? and has a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that is better than 95 dB. Available in a 12-bump, 0.4-mm-pitch WCSP, the ISL99202 is said to be the world’s smallest stereo cap-free headphone amplifier; it supports 16-? to 600-? speaker impedances. The amp’s ultra-wide operating voltage of 2.4 V to 5.5 suits it for use in mobile battery-powered applications. The ISL99202 has an input architecture which suppresses the 217-Hz “bumblebee” buzzing of GSM-protocol data transfers, preventing it from interfering with the audio output. It also offers the highest power-supply rejection ratio (PSRR) in its class. The ISL99201 is available now in eight-lead TDFN packages with prices starting at $0.56 each in lots of 1000. In a nine-bump WCSP, prices start at $0.47 each. The ISL99202 is sampling now in 12-lead TQFN and 0.4-mm-pitch 12-ball WLCSP for $0.72 and $0.65, respectively, both in lots of 1000.
