Described as the company's fastest photocoupler to date, the TLP117 operates at 5V and delivers data at rates to 50 Mb/s. The device, an optically coupled isolator consisting of a gallium aluminum arsenide light-emitting diode and an integrated photo detector, more than doubles the switching speed of the company's previous generation 5V, 20 Mb/s TLP116, thereby reducing propagation delay from 60 ns to 30ns, while maintaining a common mode transient immunity of 10 kV/µs and an isolation voltage of 3.75 kVRMS. The device also employs a bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor process to lower power consumption. Maximum output current is 10 mA and maximum supply current is 5 mA. The TLP117 comes in a 5-pin, RoHS-compatible MFSOP6 package measuring 4.4 mm x 3.6 mm x 2.5 mm with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +105°C. Priced at $1.75 each, samples are available now with mass production set for August. TOSHIBA AMERICA ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 526-2400.
