Electrical Design Engineer — Battery Systems Emphasis

Job Description
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
High level of proficiency and experience with electrical hardware design of new products related to:
- Analog and digital circuits
- RF susceptibility protection and emission control
- The use and application of power electronics
- Coordinated effort with mechanical packaging with respect to product definition
- Creating schematics and using circuit design software to produce printed circuit boards
- Research of new components, technologies, and methods to incorporate into new designs
- Prototyping and execution of test programs to verify compliance to all applicable performance, regulatory, and quality requirements
- Coordinate with other functional teams during the life cycle of the product and be responsible for design modifications as required
- Support customer and regulatory requirements with FMEA, block diagrams, state machines, etc
- Support production facilities in the manufacture and testing of products
- Complete documentation of the design in the required formats
- Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of new and existing designs
- Bill of Material (BOM) creation and maintenance
- Part and vendor evaluation and qualification
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from accredited university required
- 5+ years relevant experience (compensation based on experience)
Preferred experience and understanding of:
- Multi-cell, rechargeable lithium battery pack circuit and protection design
- Creation of battery charging and cell balancing techniques
- Multiple battery chemistries including lithium variants, sealed lead-acid, and more
Experience with DO-160, DO-178, DO-254 and other aviation standards a plus
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interface with production personnel, engineering, management, and other departments
- Organized, focused, and results-oriented with the ability to work on multiple projects
- Ability to apply gained knowledge across multiple applications
- Schematic capture and PCB layout software experience required (PADS preferred)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
- Experience with Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles a plus
- Must pass FAA/DOT drug screen and background check.

Electrical Design Engineer — Power Electronics Emphasis

- RF emission control and susceptibility protection
- Coordinated effort with mechanical packaging with respect to product definition
Inverter products to incorporate the following concepts and challenges:
- Low-distortion (<3%) pure sine wave output
- Modular architecture to allow for changes to voltage or frequency output
- Short, overload, overtemp, transient and related protection schemes
- Power ranges from 10-2000W with 85%+ efficiency
- Knowledge and implementation of magnetics and associated technologies
- Understanding of trade-offs between full-bridge, half-bridge, forward, flyback, and other topologies very helpful
Creating schematics and coordinating with PCB layout resources
Research of new components, technologies, and methods to incorporate into new designs
Prototyping and execution of test programs to verify compliance to all applicable performance, regulatory, and quality requirements

- Familiarity with formal coding protocols/standards (MISRA-C and/or similar)
Helpful Experience:
- Specific experience with RTCA DO-178B and DO-254 for the purposes of FAA certification of software and complex hardware based products
- Power PC and/or Freescale Code Warrior knowledge useful
- Digital or analog circuit design and simulation
- RTL design and simulation of FPGA or PLD components using VHDL/Verilog
- Synthesis, verification, timing analysis of FPGA components using ModelSim or similar CAE tools
- Mixed-signal PCB Design using PADS or similar CAE tools
