Until recently, most point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters for Intermediate Bus Architecture applications have been assembled on printed-circuit substrates and required separate mounting for FET switches and coil. That has changed recently with the availability of POLs configured as assemblies that contain almost all required components in a small footprint.
