Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. has issued a white paper describing the benefits of the FlexRay networking standard.

The paper, "Taking Full Advantage of the FlexRay Network for Motor Vehicles," provides an overview of the protocol, including performance comparisons with existing communications standards such as CAN. It describes the FlexRay frame format, topology, bus signals, and node status transitions; identifies various operational states of a FlexRay node, and details the header, payload and trailer segments of a typical FlexRay frame. The paper also describes the benefits of FlexRay for engine control, passenger safety, comfort, and other applications. The paper is available for download.
