Low-Cost 8-Bit ADCs Can Work With 1V

Oct. 1, 1999

The ADC08831 single-channel and ADC08832 dual-channel A/D converters dissipate a typical 8.5 µW from a single 5V supply with 2 MHz clock rate. Available in several small packages, including MSOP-8, the devices accept input voltages as low as 1V. With low power and automotive shutdown features, the ADCs are well-suited for a variety of handheld, battery-operated applications. They use a single comparator structure for converting the input voltage with a successive approximation routine. The serial communication format consists of a serial data link with the controlling processor and allows integration of many functions in a single small package. It also eliminates transmission of low-level analog signals by locating the converter right at the analog signal source.
