A single case of tampering can trigger recalls, lawsuits, and lost customers, and negative press spreads quickly. Once trust is broken, rebuilding it is very difficult and expensive. Obviously, a system can be attacked in many ways, and most of the attacks are now based on network connections. However, an area that gets less attention involves physical attacks where somebody is physically trying to do harm. That person has physical access to the device and they're trying to get in into it with methods including glitching the supply or the clock.
All told, there are as many different ways to breach a system in a physical manner as there are to get in with a communications link.
