Tamper Detection and Prevention in Electronic Systems

Tampering has been an issue ever since people relied on poison tasters, and electronic systems are no stranger to the problem.

What you'll learn:

  • The problem with tampering in embedded electronic systems.
  • Mitigation and prevention of system tampering.

Consumer trust is a foundational element of any successful business, yet many companies don’t pay enough attention to tampering prevention in their products and systems. They may believe it’s an extra cost they can avoid, but ignoring security can lead to bigger problems.

A single case of tampering can trigger recalls, lawsuits, and lost customers, and negative press spreads quickly. Once trust is broken, rebuilding it is very difficult and expensive. In this podcast, we talk to Chris Morrison, VP of Product Marketing at Agile Analog, about the issues around tempering in electronic systems

Obviously, a system can be attacked in many ways, and most of the attacks are now based on network connections. However, an area that gets less attention involves physical attacks where somebody is physically trying to do harm. That person has physical access to the device and they're trying to get in into it with methods including glitching the supply or the clock.

All told, there are as many different ways to breach a system in a physical manner as there are to get in with a communications link.
