My December 2025 Card for You All
I have to close down my machine shop. It’s a long drive. I’m never there.
The other day, I brought home a 15-foot truck’s worth of items. Machines, electronics, the trappings of a waning, maybe ending business.
I sat there sorting through all the effects. Underneath the development boards, components, and tools, I found a holiday card. Inside was a check. It was a present from my sister thirty-some-odd years ago. The card read, “I don’t have much, but I wanted you to have this.” I didn’t cash it back then for obvious reasons.
Digging further into the pile, I found a few little handmade gifts from my nieces from when they were young. A few other cards with messages steeped in the times they were written.
As I sorted, I threw away the electronics, components, and business accoutrements and kept the cards and gifts.
…
There was a last time Santa brought a gift, or a last time our kid selves got something. Then we piled our lives right over it, forgetting what it even was.
Take a moment this year and remember some of those old times. Break out the saved cards and find those lost presents.
Merry December and Happy New Year!

p.s. In my cartoon, I used a pic of my actual electronic junk. It’s a lot. It’s too much. I have to purge. 😊
