Engineering on Friday ‘toon: Summer Break Perspectives
Summer Break Perspectives
Summer break starts today! Friday, May 29th, 2026. Well, for my kiddo. But I think we all should still get summer breaks, don’t you?
I remember, as a kid, summer break seemed to last forever — so much time to do so many things. But today, I think about the summer. I have a bucket full of big projects, and I don’t think I even have enough time to get one done!
- Will I get my Halloween costume projects done for my son and I by October?
- How about that Halloween effect one, by October?
- My atmospheric sensor?
- That other complex sensor one?
- How about my book?
The litany of things I need to be working on in a short amount of time is shockingly long.
I miss the days of endless summer, for sure.
In this comic, the little kid is my son, and the big one is me. Same day, same space — different perspectives.
Also.. got to use my Raspberry Pi sketch again in the second panel on the table! Recycle and reuse!
Here it is blown up so you can see it's hand-drawn, kind of poorly, now that I look at it. :)
I always like the look of electronics and hardware drawn like this. I think it goes back to my Mechwarrior, Battletech, Cyberpunk, and Shadowrun manuals. The artists had this kind of "unfinished technical parts diagram" kind of look to a lot of the technology in them. I think I read/looked at the books far longer than I ever played.
Next week, I’ll post one that kind of fits this schematic/parts diagram style way better.
Until then...
