Power Electronics Technology is pleased to welcome power-supply industry-veteran Lou Pechi as a new monthly columnist at our website. With his 45 years of engineering, sales management and marketing experience, Pechi brings a unique perspective to bear in commenting on developments and trends affecting power-supply technology and business.

Pechi currently runs STRATA, a strategic marketing company, and is active in the Power Sources Manufacturers Association, where he serves as chairman of the marketing committee. Over the course of his career, Pechi has managed sales and marketing for several major power-supply companies including Power-One, the company from which he recently retired. At Power-One, Pechi introduced the Modular High Power product family and was part of the team that established the company's Silicon Power Systems division.

As an engineer, Pechi developed power supplies, audio warning voice annunciators, automatic test equipment, and underwater communications spectrum-analysis systems. He holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from San Diego State University and a master of business administration degree in marketing from Pepperdine University. In his first column, “Where Have All the Gurus Gone,” Pechi reflects on some of the engineering luminaries who have advanced the art of power-supply design and discusses their contributions.
