The Green Grid, a nonprofit industry consortium of technology suppliers and end users, has been formed to advance energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. In late February, the consortium announced its formation as well as the completion of its membership structure and technical charter.

The consortium's board of directors consists of AMD, APC, Dell, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Rackable Systems, SprayCool, Sun Microsystems and VMware. These companies represent all facets of product development for the data center and are collectively committed to driving new user-centric metrics, technology standards and best practices for use by data center managers worldwide.
