Connector manufacturers FCI Electronics and Tyco Electronics recently agreed to a couple of licensing agreements. FCI will license its HCI® power distribution connector system and its Pwr TwinBlade I/O connector system to its competitor.

The HCI supports the demand for additional power density in pluggable dc or ac power-supply interfaces in servers, storage enclosures, networking or communications equipment. The connector is designed to address requirements that extend beyond the capability of existing power-supply connectors including FCI's PwrBlade® and Tyco Electronics' MULTIBEAM XL connector systems. The HCI anticipates increasing system power demands that are driving the need for greater power density. A single HCI power contact handles more than 82 A based on a 30°C temperature rise with zero airflow. The high current-carrying capacity coupled with a robust, molded-in guidance system suits high-wattage, blind-mate power supplies.

The Pwr TwinBlade connector system anticipates increasing system power demands that are driving the need for greater power density. This connector accommodates up to 100 A per twin contact based on a 30°C temperature rise with zero airflow. It supports multiple wire sizes including 10-, 16- and 25-mm2 and is available with straight or right-angle cable exit options for maximized routing flexibility.

The right-angle board connector enables use in front-I/O applications. In addition, the Pwr TwinBlade features a robust design with touch-proof safety features, an integrated active latching system, four coding key options and a polarized housing to ensure proper mating.
