Heralded as the industry's lowest voltage, highest bandwidth modulator for optical networks, the 2625C lithium niobate modulator requires only a 2.5V drive referenced at1 GHz and has a minimum bandwidth of 30 GHz. Designed for use in 40 Gb/s optical networking systems, the device is suitable for use in dense WDM systems operating up to SONET OC-768 and SDH STM-256 rates.Maximum ratings include an optical input power at 1.5 µm of 30 mW, RF voltage of 10 Vp-p, a dc input voltage of -20V minimum and 20V maximum, and an operating temperature range from 0ûC to 70ûC. Other features include an operating wavelength of 1,525 nm minimum to 1,620 maximum, optical insertion loss of 6 dB, an electrode impedance of 47½, and an electrical return loss of -10 dB. The device is sampling now with production ramp up scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2001. Unit pricing will be less than $10 in volume.
