The CAT660 charge-pump voltage converter can be configured to invert or double the input voltage. Equipped with a 100-mA output capability, the unit targets low-cost embedded control, instrumentation, medical, wireless, and LCD display markets. The charge-pump architecture reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) levels by avoiding inductors and their magnetic fields. Only two external capacitors are needed for operation. The capacitors can be sized according to the device's selectable operating frequency of 10 to 80 kHz. The converter features an input range of 1.5 to 5.5 V, and its output voltage is unregulated. It's offered in eight-pin DIP and SO packages as well as in an eight-pad TDFN package with a 0.8-mm maximum height. Both lead and halogen-free "green" devices are also available. A variety of temperature ranges can be specified. Pricing starts at $0.98 each in 1000-unit quantities.
