Brightness levels and other performance capabilities are said to be sufficiently high for a new 20.1" monochrone thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD to warrant its use in diagnostic imaging, clinical and other critical applications. The 2-megapixel (1600 x 1200-pixel) LQ201U1LW11 TFT-LCD incorporates brightness (700 nits) and multiple layer imaging capabilities that until now reportedly could only be found in more expensive, 3- and 5-megapixel modules. The SXGA monochrome display also boasts of a 170¡ viewing angle, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, improved contrast and response time, and the elimination of bright pixel defects. A 20.1" UXGA color module, the LQ201U1LW01, for ultrasound and PET applications is also available. It can deliver 16 million colors and has a 220-nit brightness, 400:1 contrast ratio and operates from a 12V supply. Both LCDs are priced at about $1,800 each.
