Designed using discrete three-dimensional switching elements with independent dual-control mechanisms, the VOS64 64x64 non-blocking photonic switch is said to offer minimal interdependence among switching elements and simplified control systems.

Designed using discrete three-dimensional switching elements with independent dual-control mechanisms, the VOS64 64x64 non-blocking photonic switch is said to offer minimal interdependence among switching elements and simplified control systems. Targeting metro and core applications where carriers need to switch express traffic on wavelengths, wavelength bands and entire fibers as cost effectively as possible, the VOS64 is claimed to be one of the lowest optical insertion loss switches in the 64x64 category at less than 4 dB. Fast signal switching speeds, active compensation for environmental changes (e.g. temperature and vibration), and performance monitoring and reporting functionality are other features of the switch. The VOS64, as well as the other members of the VOS family (i.e. 8x8, 16x16 and 32x32 configurations) are available for customer trials and volume delivery. VITESSE SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Camarillo, CA.
