Unlike encoders that require special tools to align the mounting plate and to mount the rotor on the motor shaft, 920 Series optical encoders are designed to quickly and easily snap onto a mounting plate, requiring no specialized tools for installation. The encoders offer high resolution, high reliability and 2-channel quadrature output. They transmit light from a lensed LED source through slots in a rotor to a detector on the other side. As the rotor turns the light beam is interrupted, a series of waveforms is produced. The waveforms are then used to determine speed, direction and position of a rotating shaft. The encoders are completely enclosed to protect them from damage, and the pre-aligned rotors/optics and assembled housing simplify the installation process.
