Developed for media oriented system transport (MOST) fiber-optic networks, the L8628 transmitter and S8627 receiver photo ICs deliver a maximum data rate of 50 Mb/s over a TTL interface. They can also be used in FOT applications in locations subject to excessive noise, including factory automation networks and office machine networks. The S8627 receiver employs a monolithic structure that is fabricated from a PiN-BiP process. A sleep-mode and optical wake-up function triggers the device when light is input and reduces power consumption to 30 mA in sleep mode. The L8628 transmitter integrates a red LED, driver and current regulator into a clear plastic package. The device can be set to an operating mode that reduces the optical output level by half. Both devices can operate over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range. HAMAMATSU CORP., Bridgewater, NJ. (800) 524-0504.
