Toshiba Features Embedded/Removable NAND Flash Memory And Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

Toshiba will be demonstrating a variety of products at CES, including an assortment of high-capacity, high-speed memory cards and innovative fuel cell solutions for portable consumer electronics applications.

CES will see the announcement from Toshiba America Electronics Components about several new products, as well as a demonstration of emerging technologies.

Toshiba will announce its strategy for addressing the growing embedded NAND flash market and its selection of four embedded flash solutions. They will display their latest high-density removable storage products for digital cameras and camcorders, cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, portable and desktop computers. Also on display will be an assortment of current and future high-capacity, high-speed memory cards, including SD, miniSD, microSD, SDHC and CompactFlash cards, along with Toshiba's TransMemory standard and U3 smart USB Flash drives, and a variety of conceptual prototypes using SD and SDHC memory cards, including an OLED portable media player, a dual-view eBook and a miniature PDA.

The company will be holding private customer demonstrations, by appointment only, of its latest digital TV/multimedia ICs and turnkey reference platforms. In addition, they will reveal the first details about their new Mobile Strategic Initiative of analog-peripheral IC/IP solutions and local support aimed at U.S.-based mobile handset/terminal makers.

Toshiba is also working on both "active" and "passive" fuel cells for portable consumer electronics applications. Recent developments for notebook PCs at Toshiba have enabled conventional direct methanol fuel cell systems to be made smaller and slimmer, with further reduction in size anticipated. Mobile performance is made possible by embedding the DMFC system into portable applications. For mobile audio players, they have introduced a high-density methanol fuel cell with a newly developed structure that slims down the device profile. Fuel can be added even while the device is in operation.
