The AD9516 debuts as the industry’s first clock generator to combine 14-channel clock distribution at jitter levels below 1 ps, an integer-N synthesizer, two reference inputs, a 2.8-GHz voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), programmable dividers, and adjustable delay lines. In addition to eliminating several discrete components, the on-chip VCO diminishes risks associated with discrete-oscillator failures. There are five versions of the clock, each supporting a specific frequency range. The high-end AD9516-0 includes a VCO operating from 2.6 GHz to 2.95 GHz. The other devices cover lower frequencies, down to the AD9516-4’s VCO range of 1.5 GHz to 1.9 GHz. Each device can also be used with an external VCO. Shared features include six LVPECL outputs, which operate up to the maximum VCO rate and four/eight outputs that are programmable to either LVDS (four outputs) or CMOS (eight outputs) levels. Available in 64-lead, 9 mm × 9 mm LFCSPs, pricing is $10.75 each/10,000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 426-2564.
