Available now in production quantities, the two-channel CS48DV2 claims title as the first audio digital-signal processor (DSP) integrating Dolby Volume sound-leveling technology for digital television applications. The technology promises to eliminate the problem of continually variable volume levels by ensuring consistent sound levels during blaring commercials and while switching channels. It consists of two volume-control technologies: Modeler and Leveler. Leveler continually measures the perceptual loudness of audio content and applies multi-band gain modifications via a perceptual processing engine. Modeler technology perpetually analyzes and modifies audio depending on content and playback levels while restoring it to the way it the human ear perceives it at the reference playback level. Overall, the DSP forecasts better imaging, intelligibility, and audibility. Available in a 48-pin QFP, price for the CS48DV2 is $4.78 each/10,000. CIRRUS LOGIC INC., Austin, TX. (800) 888-5016.
